A wonderful CUTR/USF team gathered at the WTS Tampa Bay Holiday event on November 14, 2018 at Bernini's in Ybor City to celebrate a successful year! WTS also recognized CUTR director Dr. Robert Bertini as the Person of the Year for 2018. Dr. Bertini was very grateful for the recognition and he recommended that everyone join WTS! USF/CUTR students and faculty were active participants in the ITE District 10/FSITE Annual Meeting held October 29-31, 2018 in Coral Springs, FL. Our recent graduate Kurt Lehmann won the District 10 Henry P. Boggs Student Paper Award, and Crystal Wang won Second Place in the Shark Tank competition that included 11 students from seven Florida universities: USF, UF, FSU/FAMU/ UNF, FIU, UCF and ERAU. It was great to see so many students participating! USF students MD Hoque, Dongfang Zhao, CUTR faculty Jodi Godfrey and director Dr. Robert Bertini also participated.

It was great to meet with all of the energetic transportation students and hear about their progress with their growing student chapter! CUTR director Dr. Robert Bertini chaired the Mid-Term Review of the TUMCREATE "Towards the Ultimate Public Transport System" program in Singapore on October 11-12, 2018. TUMCREATE is a collaboration between Technical University Munich (TUM) and Nanyang Technological University (NTU) for the improvement of Singapore's public transportation, including the deployment of electric and autonomous mobility. The program is funded by Singapore’s National Research Foundation as part of the Campus for Research Excellence And Technological Enterprise (CREATE). Dr. Bertini also visited the Singapore-MIT Alliance for Research and Technology (SMART) and the ETH-Zurich Future Cities Laboratory. TUM CREATE Ltd.

CUTR Director Dr. Robert Bertini participated in the 25th ITS World Congress in Copenhagen, Denmark 17–21 September 2018. Bertini presented “Global Perspectives on the Past, Present and Future of Active Traffic Management: Focus on Ramp Control Implementations,” in a session on Traffic Demand Management and “Preparing a Connected Vehicle Roadmap for Optimal System Deployment Scenarios: Case Study of the State of Oregon, United States,” in a session on Roadmaps to Deployment. Bertini also participated in a “Bicycle Planning is City Planning” tour led by former Copenhagen mayor Morten Kabell.
